REVIEW COPY: Hardcover (won in contest)

In a future Chicago, 16-year-old Beatrice Prior must choose among five predetermined factions to define her identity for the rest of her life, a decision made more difficult when she discovers that she is an anomaly who does not fit into any one group, and that the society she lives in is not perfect after all.

It was a long road for me to actually read Divergent. It’s so popular and so well liked, but when I started it last year I got bored and set it aside, never bothering to pick it back up again to finish.

Then last week I was sorting books and came across Divergent (I have a very nice signed hardcover that I won) and started reading where I’d left off. I’m starting to realize that I need to stick with books and stop quitting at the 40%ish mark. That’s apparently when things get good, because, wow, Divergent was really exciting.

I did not see the last third or so coming and couldn’t put it down. I was really impressed with Tris and how strong she was when things went bad. She was able to fight for what she believed in and for the greater good. The use of the factions to show the different sides of human characters and the way The Divergent fit between the factions was really interesting and well done. I really like where the series appears to be going and I’m actually excited to read Insurgent (book 2) soon.

Plus I have to say a little something about Four/Tobias. Another wow, because he seems cool at the beginning of the story but nothing really special, but by the end he is hot! I am definitely a big Four/Tobias fan. The scenes between him and Tris were great. They have crazy sexual tension, yeek!

Divergent is worth sticking with to the end.  By the end of the book I was really impressed with the story, the characters and the writing. This is a solid novel fans of fantasy and dystopian will enjoy.

  1. Just wait for Insurgent-I thought it was kind of boring for about the first 300 pages but then the rest flew by!
